We all tend to think we just don’t have enough time in our day to workout. But the truth is, there are so many things we could be doing to get in shape while we go about our day. The truth is, you don’t have to block out 30 minutes to work out, you just need to find a sum total of 30 minutes in your day. One study found that women who split their exercise into 10-minute increments were more likely to exercise consistently, and lost more weight after five months, than women who exercised for 20 to 40 minutes at a time.*
Taking Care of a Sick Kid? There are tons of things you can do to stay active while your charge rests. If you have an exercise bike, you can ride it while staying nearby inside the house. You can even practice yoga in the living room.
Jumping Jacks! Try 5 to 10 minutes of jumping jacks. (A 150-pound woman can burn 90 calories in one 10-minute session.)*
Add dumbbells to your nightly routine. Do some quick dumbbell routines while you wait for your nightly face mask to dry.
Waiting in the Doctor’s Office? See how long a wait you have and burn some time circling the building. You don’t have to pick through old magazines and you burn some calories.
Get Active With Your Kids. Kids have endless energy, and while it may be hard to keep up, getting involved is an easy way to build up your endurance. Throw a ball or play freeze tag. You’ll have fun and your kids will appreciate you playing with them.
Take a quick break at work to walk up and down the stairs. More and more companies seem to be encouraging these mini breaks so you’ll likely have no problems letting your boss know what you’re doing.
Jog in place on commercial breaks while watching your favorite shows.
Traveling? Book a hotel room on the 5th floor or higher and walk up and down the stairs whenever you leave or return to your room.
These are some suggestions, but you can add in whatever you’d like, just don’t be discouraged! You can get in shape, no matter how hectic your schedule!
