Don’t Give the Gift of Food Poisoning

Helpful hints to keep everyone feeling warm and cozy!

  • Use a food thermometer to make sure meat is cooked to a safe temperature
  • Refrigerate food within two hours
  • Leftovers are safe for four days in the refrigerator
  • Bring sauces, soups and gravies to a rolling boil when reheating
  • When storing turkey, cut the leftovers in small pieces so they will chill quickly
  • Wash your hands frequently when handling food
  • Use a separate cutting board for vegetables and meats to avoid cross contamination
  • On a buffet, keep hot foods hot and cold food cold. Cold foods in the fridge and hot foods in the oven at 200 degrees
  • Try smaller platters that can be switched out regularly
  • Use the 2 hours rule- room temperature items need to be discarded after 2 hours
