In the event of an auto insurance claim:

  1. Remain calm – slow down your breathing
  2. If possible, move your vehicle out of harm’s way
  3. Make sure everyone is ok in your car & other cars and call the Police, dial 911
  4. If someone else is involved, exchange information. Including: Name, Address and Contact Information, License Number, and Insurance Information
  5. Gather Witness information- names and phone numbers
  6. From a safe distance, photograph any damage
  7. Don’t offer an opinion regarding who was at fault for the accident
  8. Call your insurance company’s claims number-listed on your insurance ID card (Nationwide Customers 1-800-421-3535 Can’t find the number? Call us 1-888-851-5572)
  9. Discuss the accident details only with the police and your insurance agent
  10. Don’t leave the scene until instructed by the police

If you weren’t driving – the name and address of the person who was

A basic description of what happened:

  1. Severity of the damage
  2. Estimated time / location of the incident
