A flood is an overflow of water that submerges land that is usually dry. In the sense of “flowing water”, the word may also be applied to the inflow of the tide. Floods are an area of study of the discipline of hydrology and are of significant concern in agriculture, civil engineering and public health. Human changes to the environment often increase the intensity and frequency of flooding, for example land use changes such as deforestation and removal of wetlands, changes in waterway course or flood controls such as with levees, and larger environmental issues such as climate change and sea level rise.

We are anticipating an especially active flood and hurricane season. Heavy rainfall, a growing number of named storms, and other factors are contributing to an increase in the risk of flooding. Where it rains, it can flood, and it’s critical that your policyholders know where they are vulnerable. The risk of flooding can vary between streets, cities, and states.  The risk for one customer may not be the same for another. As such, the way we communicate flood risk from one policyholder to another may vary. We have put together a short-form video series that will walk you through the most common risks for factors impacting your customers. Interested in more flood related training opportunities?
